Have you not beat Xenogears before? I'll say it outright, probably one of those most frustrating games I've ever played if you're going for a perfect or near-perfect playthrough, but also the most rewarding. Up until now I'd found Final Fantasy Tactics to be the most rich in terms of character development, plot development, overall feel, yada yada, but this game takes the cake. Similar to Tactics in the sense that the developers didn't hold back and it touches down on a lot of shit like philosophy, various religions, death, time. My second choice would've been Star Ocean 2 'til I notice little old Xenogears sitting at the bottom of the poll. If you plan on playing the physical copy, be ready to drop kick your Playstation and if you're emulating, get in touch with me for tips on the 2-3 parts of the game where shit glitches out.

Not your standard Attack, Magic, Item, Escape RPG and the whole "Gears" and futuristic "anime" feel makes for a very cool atmosphere.

^ Yeah I've never beaten it. What kind of glitches are you talking about? Because I'm most likely just gonna play it on my PS3, I actually don't have my PS1 unboxed right now - just the games lol.

The PS3 port runs without any flaws to my knowledge; the ROMs available on the internet are what were an issue: a boss battle that froze halfway through and 2-3 anime CGs that required a little bit of tweaking to get through, all of which were pretty manageable with PSX 1.13 but might've been a pain in the ass for ePSXe users.

If youve never played suikoden 1-2, I strongly recommend doing both 1 after the other.
over 100 characters to join your team, teams of 6 characters, combos etc, the story of suikoden 2 is just, sooo good. I loved it when I was a teen.

^ Unfortunately I don't have Suikoden II, I got lucky and got the first one for like 10 dollars in a pawn shop. Seems like they are usually extremely expensive. I kinda think that a huge cast of characters can be a really big turn off though. I prefer a tight knit cast, rather than a bunch of side characters, that was one of the things I hated about Chrono Cross.

This is a really tough choice though! I'm gonna pick something when I get back home this Friday.

I'm thinking it's either gonna be Front Mission 3, Grandia, Parasite Eve, Star Ocean: The Second Story, or Xenogears. I'll fire each up most likely and see about the feeling I get from each just to refresh my memory.

Edit: On a side note, I'm kinda surprised that their are 2 votes for Arc the Lad on the poll, yet noone has said anything about it here.

Aww that sucks, you should try and find suikoden 2 cheap ( might be hard lol ).
While its true that over 100 characters seems like a lot, and they might not all have a huge background, I do like the facts that u get to choose which characters you want with you, from a large pool.
Sometimes its annoying to choose from 6-8 guys that none of them really shine for you.
In suikoden its usually the opposite, theres soo many cool ones, that you dont know who to keep lol.

So I've decided to go with Front Mission 3. It was a close choice between that, Xenogears, Star Ocean: The Second Story, and Grandia when it came down to it. After thinking about it, I think I just wanted a game where I didn't really have to grind, that I could just play through it comfortably, and it doesn't seem like there are "random battles" in Front Mission 3, all the battles relate to story events.

I've played it for a couple hours this weekend, and I do like how it's starting out. After I beat it though, Xenogears or Star Ocean will be my next choice.

Parasite eve because its moderately long, unique game play.. Fast action hot chick..
And because its unique so when your done you can jump straight into a final fantasy type game and not get Borden sickness..

Or should Rick earthbound!
