This Guide is split into 3 different sections: First the Gate guide, then the Adventure board and then the Depths.

Gate Guide

Gates are entrances into the Clockworks where knights go for adventure.
Gates can be either active, where knights can use them to travel down into the Clockworks, or dormant with a countdown timer showing when it will become active.

There are four parts to a gate:

- Control Panel - Used on active gates to go adventuring
- Display Monitor - Visually shows the gate's name
- Mineral Deposit Box - Used on dormant gates for gate construction
- Totem - Shows either the current levels (active gates) or the current construction status (dormant gates)

Active Gates

Active gates are open for exploration by knights. Although a few are fixed, such as the training levels and the former Firefly Gate, most are constructed by players in the Arcade and have different thematic levels depending on the construction process. Each active gate in the Arcade is present for 8 days, vanishing afterward to make room for a new dormant gate on the right side of the lineup.

To enter a gate, go to the Control Panel and use your ATTACK key to access the options.

Gate Progress

Entrance to a subtown, the first levels of tiers 2 and 3, is only free for that gate if a knight has reached that subtown from the previous tier in a previous run. Clearance for free tier entrance is separate for each gate, so new runs from the top are required as new gates become active. Gate progress is shown on the Progress tab of the Character window; free entry is marked by a filled star, while paid entry is marked by an empty star.

Tier 1 - Depth 0-7; always free entry; no requirements.
Tier 2 - Depth 8-17; paid entry: 200 crowns; requires 2 star items minimum or better.
Tier 3 - Depth 18-28; paid entry: 500 crowns; requires 4 star items minimum or better.

Level Rotation

Aside from levels having multiple possible versions, the next depth's level changes in real time if there is more than one possible level for that depth. The current next level can be seen on the monitor at the lift to the next depth, and on the Gate Map of your current adventure, which is accessed from the Main Menu "cog wheel" icon in the top left corner of the screen.

On the Gate Map, there is a line leading from your current level (marked with a red circle and a "person" icon) to the next location. Each possible level is divided by arrows pointing left or right, or a question mark. The arrows indicate in which direction the levels will move at the next interval of level rotation. These arrows can flip to become the opposite arrow, and the line leading to the next level can also change its path. Question marks mean that depth's next level is constantly changing, so the next level cannot be determined. With enough waiting, it is possible to take the most desirable route down, barring the randomized question marked depths.

The interval at which depths can change the path varies or may be random, although most of the time it changes around every 5 (3 to 7) minutes. It is possible for the levels to move left/right and the line leading to the level to change at the same time, bypassing what should have been the "next" level entirely. Levels continue to rotate even as you play through your current one, so you may wait an elevator for the desired level to appear. The next level is not locked in until all party members step on the lift; the monitor may change while heat is being distributed, but the level has already been chosen

Dormant Gates

Dormant gates appear to the right side of the Arcade and have 8 days of gate construction before becoming active gates. You can see an exact day:hour:minute:second countdown indicator in the display when interacting with the mineral deposit area. During this time players can deposit minerals to create thematic levels within each stratum.
When the countdown timer reaches zero, the gate becomes active with whatever levels that have been constructed.
When a new gate is generated in the Arcade, it is randomly assigned a color and a symbol to give it a name.
Below is a list of known colors and symbols

Colors

Amber
Copper
Coral
Dark
Diamond
Emerald
Golden
Iron
Jade
Onyx
Ruby
Sapphire
Silver

Symbols

Bishop
Clover

There currently are 182 (= 13 colors * 14 symbols) possible combinations.

Adventure Board

Clockwork depths have level icons that denote the type of level Knights will delve into. There are three things Knights should look for:

Background color: This indicates the elemental theme of the depth and determines which status ailments will appear.
Icon: This determines the map style and layout of the depth.
Icon color: This tells Knights what kind of monsters lurk in the depth, and in turn which damage type to expect.

Background colors

Grey: Normal
Orange: Fire
Green: Poison
Turquoise: Shock
Blue: Freeze

Icon colors

Pink: Slimes
Yellow: Beasts
Orange: Gremlins
Blue: Fiends
Grey: Undead
Brown: Constructs

In the picture below, you will see some images of some of the possible types of levels.
The icon for the Boss' are also shown.

Depths.

There are 29 depths.

Tier1 is from depth 1 til depth 8. at depth 8 is moorcroft.
Tier2 is from depth 8 til depth 18. at depth 18 is emberlight.
Tier3 is from depth 18 til 29. at depth 29 is the core.

There are crossroads/safe places to stop and heal, and to buy recipes from Basil.
The crossroads are situated at depth 4, depth 13 and depth 23.

This is a basic guide to help explain how the Arcade works.
If anything is unclear or if you have any questions.
Please PM me and I will any way I can.

Crafting allows you to take materials obtained while adventuring and use them to create new items or upgrade items you already have. Crafting costs both crowns and energy, in addition to the items listed in the recipe.

Crafting an Item

Once everything needed for a recipe is acquired, an item can be created at an Alchemy Machine. The process will use up the items, materials, crowns, and energy listed on the recipe. Crafting is not tied to any skill, and the Alchemy Machine will always successfully create your item if you have all the required ingredients and can pay the cost.

Recipe

Recipes are purchased from vendors which can be found in Haven and while adventuring on the various levels. Hover over the recipes to see details on the item it will create. After a recipe is purchased, it can be found in your Arsenal under Recipes. Once a recipe is learned, the associated item may be crafted as many times as desired. Recipes cannot be unlearned. The cost of recipes depends on the star level.

Recipe Prices:

★☆☆☆☆: 250 crowns
★★☆☆☆: 1,000 crowns
★★★☆☆: 4,000 crowns
★★★★☆: 10,000 crowns
★★★★★: 25,000 crowns

How to Learn Recipes

First, acquire an unlearned recipe; it will be placed in the recipe section of your arsenal. 3 well-known recipe vendors are Basil (found in clockwork terminals), Kozma the spiral quartermaster (found in Haven and other subtowns), and Vatel (found in the Haven bazaar).
Second, click on the recipe you wish to learn and click on the "Learn" option presented.
Voila! You can now make that item through the alchemy machines located in every town area.

Note: Recipes you have already learned will not have a "Learn" option shown when clicking on it in your inventory.

Materials

Materials can be found in the Clockworks while adventuring. Certain recipes may also require other pieces of equipment, or even equipment with certain level of heat. Using recipes to upgrade items creates a more powerful item than the one you started with. Press F5 or select Recipes from the Menu in the upper left corner to bring up the Recipe Manager. Here you can get more information on which materials are needed to create the item. Note that the Recipe Manager can't create the item, for that you need the Alchemy Machines described below.

Higher-ranked materials have a better chance of dropping the deeper you delve into the Clockworks. Here is a general outline of where to find materials of each star rating. Note: This is not a strict list, and some materials may be found higher or lower in the Clockworks.

☆☆☆☆☆: All depths
★☆☆☆☆: All depths
★★☆☆☆: Stratum 2 and deeper
★★★☆☆: Stratum 3 and deeper
★★★★☆: Stratum 4 and deeper
★★★★★: Stratum 5 and deeper

Alchemy Machines are located in Haven, Moorcroft Manor, and Emberlight. Haven has several Alchemy Machines which can be found in Guildhalls, the Bazaar, Arcade, and the Town Square. The cost of crafting an item depends on its star level, and generally doubles with each additional star.

Alchemy Cost:

★☆☆☆☆: 200 crowns/ 10 energy
★★☆☆☆: 400 crowns/ 50 energy
★★★☆☆: 1,000 crowns / 200 energy
★★★★☆: 2,500 crowns/ 400 energy
★★★★★: 5,000 crowns/ 800 energy

Usually, crafting is much cheaper than buying the item pre-made from a vendor, and also gives the added possibility of creating a unique variant (see below). Pre-made items increase in price as their star level increases. Thus, items with a high star level are generally cheaper to craft than to buy pre-made.

Unique Variants

When crafting an item, you will sometimes be informed that you have crafted a "unique variant." These items have a stat bonus.
The variant's bonus is described in the tooltip and marked with a star icon.

Here is an example of a recipe.

Recipe Bolted Blade!

The 1-star recipe for this item costs 250 crowns; the alchemy cost is 200 crowns and 10 energy. Below are the materials needed to make the Bolted Blade.
Name Amount
Light Shard 3
Bronze Bolt 2

Here is a basic Video guide iv recorded to show you a basic crafting experience!
Enjoy!

Crown Farming Guide.

Feeling short on crowns or CE? want a FAST and simple way to make crowns?
Then follow this simple guide!

Requirements:
- 2 applications of Spiral Knights ( this is legal )
- Different account registered on the Spiral Knights Webpage.
- Being friends with your 'ALT'
- Having your alt in Haven.

1) Okay so, firstly you must find the gate that has an arena possibility @ depth 5! ( most profitable )
2) Go to depth 4... and wait for the elevator to turn to the arena symbol *** see bottom of post***
3) Get to depth 5 ( you can solo or as a part of a group it does not matter. )
4) Go solo
5) Invite your ALT to your party, at the BEGINNING of the arena.
6) Go solo
7) Complete arena and go UP! at the elevator. Its important you go up to the haven.
8) Invite from your alt to your main to join the party.
9) Go solo
10) repeat step 7 and so forth.

You can farm alot of Crowns this way.
I would also advise you do this when you have 100 Mist energy for it to be most profitable. save you CE!
Extra income can be gained by selling your Materials via the Auction house!

REMEMBER! DO NOT LET YOUR ALT GET IDLE KICKED.. Keep moving your alt once roughly every 5 minutes! else youll get kicked.
I want to thank my ingame friend Hikons for telling me this awesome idea.
