Gold cap was only impressive in retail and TBC. After that gold was raining from the skys and shit and far to easy to obtain in large amounts.

Capped in vanilla/tbc/cata/MoP and soon to be in Burning Legion. If you don't spend your gold on dumb shit and just save up from boss/dailies it's simple to maintain
