no ut stuff

my merc keeps dying vs diablo cause every time diablo seems to target him insted of me.

so i was thinking: how does diablo (or any boss) determen the target?

edit: apparently it has something to do with weapons since when i removed reapers from the merc for the diablo fight diablo attacked me insted

Thats an interesting question, but i wonder if it isn't just random?
Did u do him several times and weapon change affected who diablo attacks EVERY time? Are you sure?

yup.. it did. even after d targeted me first when the merc got near d changed target.

hes gear was duriels/guli/reapers. everytime i removed reapers d would attack me.

now i playd around with the gear and hes currently wearing levi/rockstopper/reaper and d keeps on attacking me.

i remeber long long time ago when i used hammerdin with a3 merc and lawbringer and had the same problem.. this is just odd if you ask me, there must be some kind of rule of thumb how its decided who is he attacking

Indeed it is odd, i don't know how it is predetermined, and if it is, is it the same for every monster, or different for each one? Also, u changed gear, but u still using same weapon, so its not weapon related it seems, but maybe gear related in some form?
You have made me curious now, wanting to know answer to this myself now

well when i hit a lvl im gona try out another setup agein to test some more.

but indeed its quite odd. im quite sure someone else here might already know the answer to this

It's apparently based on some calculated threat factor. Not sure how it's calculated, but try walking up to a boss, then swapping various weapons for yourself and merc etc, and you'll see them change who they target.

Personally I just think they target me

guess so.. i'll test it out when i have the time

big d toasts my merc so quickly and i can tank him for ages.

minor update

just changed my wep from non soc wizzy to hoto (merc wearing still rockstopper/levi/reapers) and now d is all over the merc agein. i did 92->93 with the same setup before changeing my wep.

this is getting more than intresting now.. guess i should realy do some testing insted of swaping gears randomly

cant seem to get dia of my mercs back..

been swapping gear for the merc and everytime d seems to target him. even tried out switching wizzy on me but that didnt do anything really.

this is getting quite annyoing already..
