You'll need the damage from grief more, since CB won't work at all when their health is low.

You can use grief, but still needed high cb

I personally never used grief on my smiters. I always went with LW and just maxed out CB. It worked fine. But I can see how Grief could speed up the killing process... whether it's necessary or not, your call.
I just prefer LW for the following reasons:
- extra chance to cast life tap
- chance to cast fade for resists
- might aura, extra dmg (although I'm sure the dmg from Grief is much better)
- huge crushing blow (saves you item slots from not wearing too many different pieces of CB gear)
- prevent monster heal (although arguable if it's really any useful....)

oh, I play hardcore by the way so surviving is a bigger priority than kililng ubers 20 seconds faster.
