I am having trouble choosing which profession to play as. I started back up after quitting a few weeks after release. I came back and made a thief but am not liking the damage I am getting. It's more than likely due to me being low level. Anyways, I had a mesmer at launch and remember enjoying the few levels I got on him. So my question is to you guys, which profession do you enjoy more, and why? I'm looking for fun not for which is best. I don't mind struggling if it's fun.

your thief will be a much more enjoyable experience to level to 80 than a mesmer.

unfortunately that's all the advice i can give you, but i swear it's a good advice :P

I heard mesmer is a pain. next to no AoE means zerging will be difficult, and I recall mesmers having a fairly high learning curve

Assassins are fairly easy and fun :D
They are kind of like ranged / stealthy warriors really.

I like mesmers in my team, but so far hated leveling mine up to 65

i've never seen a useful mesmer that wields two swords.
if you must use a one-hand sword, use a pistol off-hand.

that being said, both the thief and mesmer have high learning curves.

Yeah I'm just sticking with the thief. Starting to get a better feel for how to avoid the attacks that matter, and just try and side step the others. Also once I can start specing into stealth crits I'm sure it will begin to get easier.

Mesmer gets a lot more fun as you level. Especially once you get clone on dodge...they become kinda OP.

Key to playing a mesmer is really clone management and shatters imo. I personally use a GS and S/P on swap for general PvE.

As for thief, 100% crit on stealth is a terrible trait for PvE. Thieves will constantly be getting nerfed in PvE as a side effect from nerfs in PvP, because all people do is complain about the class unnecessarily.

Also, thief's squishyness does not go away at higher levels, but the same can't be said for mesmers as they actually become quite good at survival if played right.

Level your mesmer to 30-40 or so with crafting, then you're good.
First few levels are terrible.

Thief is also enjoyable, but i prefer mesmer, either me or one in my group.
