Also, @whoever said arenaNet's b2p method with aesthetic cash shop items only is effective, it's a very slippery slope.

NexonNA, creators of Maplestory, started out as a full f2p game with aesthetic cash shop, now the economy is completely based on irl cash.

If you don't drop 1000+$ you wont get anywhere in that game.

B2p and p2p are the only safe games to make a long term commitment to.

Look at League of Legends.

Completely F2P, and they make all their money off of aesthetic skins.
They can offer up a 5 MILLION DOLLAR prize pool for their SECOND SEASON.

If they're not doing it right, no one is.

And in guild wars, you can't buy items that are better than what you can find.

They haven't released too much about actual items you can buy.
But you won't gain a substantial advantage.

It's clear that you have no idea where they are taking the decoration that you can buy.
There will be some time advantages that you can get.
Buying gems and selling for gold will only mean that you can buy any item in game with cash without disrupting the potential market with set prices.

Maplestory is free to download; Guild Wars 2 on the other hand is 60$+ (deluxe and collector's editions being more expensive).

Also, ArenaNet will make plenty of money from purchases. It literally costs nothing to run servers, compared to what they'll make through sales/gems.
