no matter how you look at this season epl standard has been far below par and saying epl > la liga at this point is just ignorant and narrow-minded.
you've always been hiding behind the fact that all the other spanish teams are rubbish and one of those just beat the top epl team in a 2-legged tie in both matches which is proof that the level of opposition in la liga far surpasses what you guys have been preaching all these years. your main argument of why the level of epl>that of la liga is now null and void.
to go even further. last season there wasn't one single team that had managed to beat united both at home and away. right now a 'socalled' farmers team did what the entire EPL was uncapable of last year and you dare say the level of la liga is terrible. think about it
very true... i have to admit i had epl > la liga, too. but this season is certainly different.
especially united. in my eyes they were the only european team to match the big two from spain. this year however they are a major disappointment - it's not so shocking THAT they lost but HOW they lost. kicked out from a very easy CL group and now against bilbao - 1st game could have easily been 5-2 and 2nd game 4-1 - bilbao completely dominated united!
same goes for city - they had a hard group in CL but everyone thought they or united would win europa league easily...
well i guess it goes to show that every team / league can have a weak season. but i expect them to come back big time next season. same goes for premier league. this season obviously belongs to spain (barcelona & atletico) but i don't see spain overtaking england in UEFA league coefficient any time soon.
to sum it up:
this season: la liga > epl
long-term: epl > la liga
