just finished DexterI can see why alot of people hated the endingI hate how it ended mainly because I got so attached to Dexter and wanted him to go to Argentina with Hannah and Harrison. I was definitely rooting for Dexter throughout the show which makes the ending suck dick but..if it had ended that way then the final message would be weak ass fuck and very immoralwith the ending the director chose, justice is always servedsome are put behind bars, some by "Dexters", some by guilt. ironic how dexter's justice was served by an emotion considering he was a psychopathalso, i think the ending epitomizes the show because nobody likes his decisions but they are always the right/logical/moral way of thoughtDexter Morgan ended the show Dexter by doing what he wanted to do not by the hands of anybody else or any mystical forces like that hurricanei also like how everything at the end made a full circle (kind of)Harry leaves Dexter while Dexter leaves Harrisonbiological mother is murdered turning him into a biological murderer then at the end his "spiritual mother" is murdered turning him into an emotional murderer
first death makes him full of blood which leads to death of Deb (blood clot to stroke)
second death makes him full of guilt which leads to death of himself (ending of show making viewers saddened not that its over but that how it ended)i think the ending was a little too dark though, after going through physical and emotional pain Dexter ends the show with him bringing neatly cut trees. I think it suggests that he is still the same person murderer he once was. and that everything he went through meant nothingyou can't change who you are no matter how hard you try or how moral/justified/logical your actions are.he is also wearing greenish/brown dark colored attire showing his dark side is still with himeven worse is that he wore it out in public as opposed to what he used to do in Miami, where he would wear bright colored shirts when he isnt about to kill and dark when he is about tobut ofc...it was Miami and it was somewhere in the northwestnot only that he chose a job where he is secluded from society. also even more fitting he chose a job where it has the highest mortality in the occupation (almost 3 times more than the average job)and i'm getting this from wikipedia but it says in 2008 only 86,000 loggers are employed. making it one of the most rarest occupations further supporting that Dexter chose a job where he is more likely to continue to be a murderer.and that people cannot change or run away from who they are.
he didnt run he didnt mend into society...instead he dumped Deb's body into the ocean (i like to think that he did this out of love for Deb but...from the clues i found in the ending he did it to wash his hands from his true identity...water washes away dirt and evidence. because deb was the only one who still knew he was a murderer; hannah is harrison's sole caregiver and in argentina and also actual love)he even changed out of his bright shirt into his dark kill suit to take deb off life support..maybe because he didnt want to see her like that or maybe he wanted to make sure no miracle happened.its probably just some bullshit theory im pulling out of my ass but you gotta admit the ending was a bit dark and cynical

[-possible holes in my theory-]
1. he killed Daniel with the pen wearing his bright shirt because he no longer had to cover his identity because he knew what he was and did not want to cover up his murder with his own mental block. he wanted to murder him out of love not because of his "dark passenger".
2. dexter feels regret because every death he directly caused was during his black attire/"dark passenger" form..that resulted in an emotional guilt block like some sort of mental suit. he felt guilt because his uncovered human side was not protected by the "passenger"

3. the shot of dexter in the room with quinn/angel showed dexter in the corner/dark. this is significant because of the location..

[DARK]...............[QUESTIONABLE]......[ANGEL].....DOOR

angel is the only one who is able to leave the room guilt free after seeing death in the face (dexter murdering daniel on TV).

tl;dr

the final shot of dexter/quinn/angel in the room watching the tape of dexter killing i think sums up the season very wellDexter(DARK)....Quinn(Questionable)......Angel(Angel)the camera lighting progessively gets darker going to dexter and is much brighter from where Angel is sittinghe is closer to us(humanity) while we view Dexter as some sort of monster reviling in some sort of insane way proud of himself for killing someonequinn is shocked but understands dexter's anger but says "self-defense". a defense mechanism Quinn puts for himself to shield himself from the evil that he sees in dexter. while Angel is the only one who sees it as wrong but is compassionate for dexter and is the only one who is able to leave the room.(only one we see going through the door. possibly doors into heaven like an angel protecting humans.)somewhere in the show, dexter says "if i could be normal i want to you be" (to Angel)
also, angel is the only one in the entire show who sees evil and is the only one who is willing to help him while quinn is able to see the evil in dexter but doesnt fully understand it because he is stuck between both.
funny how George (Koshka Bro.) says something like "quinn is just a middle man"

i wish there was a song at the enddark lyrics/message but very uplifting bright and positive tune
to show both sides but i guess the silence just further shows that there is a true disconnect between dexter morgan and emotions and that he is more clearcut than what we/he thought
