Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali cashed in on a career year in 2010 by reaching a five-year, $60 million deal that includes $35 million in guarantees, a source said Wednesday.
Hali is now the second-highest paid outside linebacker in the league behind DeMarcus Ware of the Cowboys. The Chiefs had previously placed the franchise tag on Hali to keep him from free agency.
Hali racked up 14.5 sacks last season to lead the AFC and was named to his first Pro Bowl. He was a large part of the Chiefs' ascension to AFC West champions.
The 27-year-old Hali has been a playmaker for the Chiefs' defense since they drafted him in the first round in 2006. He began his career as a 4-3 defensive end, but a move to the 3-4 defense turned him into one of the best pass-rushers in football.
