If you defer the possession, that means you get to choose which goal to defend, right?
The ref accepted Slater's alleged choice to kick THEN asked the Jets which goal they want to defend
Actually, I'm pretty sure that the other team gets to decide whatever the winning team doesn't decide.
So there's a rare case where you can choose which goal to defend and then the opponent has to choose to kickoff or defer, but I can't recall it ever having happened. I think.
