Alright so here are some thoughts on this first round that I need to share. There wasn't really any bad selections this year which I was happy to see. There were however A LOT of confusing ones but nothing that strikes out as bad as I'm remembering back. I have to actually go back and look at each one now though.
I guess the winnersTitans staying put to take Mariota was the right decision. If they were pressured into a trade for an offer they didn't like that was the wrong play. They knew what they wanted for the pick, no one offered it, take the QB, field offers over the next couple of days (which will likely be shit) and move on. They'll change their system to work to Mariota's strengths and honestly, I like Mariota to the Titans more than Winston to the Buccs.
Jets taking Leonard Williams. Man I don't often praise the Jets but when you get the #1 ranked player at 6 without moving, that's talent by the front office.

lol. But really, it's a headscratcher only because they take him and then immediately say they aren't shopping Wilkerson. OK...they're going to be in the same situation the Rams are. They'll likely move someone and like I said none of these are bad picks, just headscrathers is all. When they move one of the 3 (Mo) then all works out. Great pick by the Jets in the end. Put this in both sections.
DRAINO!!!!! OH THE TEXANS AREN'T TAKING A CORNER IN THE FIRST RIGHT!!?!?!? Loooooove ya buddy.
Cardinals taking DJ Humphries. While I wanted Gregory or Jalen Collins, once I had time to think about it, I LOOOOOVE this pick. This almost completes our OL. Humphires at RT (some had him ranked as the top LT which was awful), Veldheer and Iupati on the left. Coop and whoever else because my brain isn't working atm fighting for RG and I guess Shipley at C. Get a young C later on. If we keep Carson healthy last year, who knows what could have been.
Packers taking Randall. They're going to slot Randall at corner. That's fine, he can do that imo. He's incredibly talented and as far as just DBs in general go, I had him #4 overall behind Peters, Waynes and Jalen Collins. So it's good value but if they wanted a corner, why not just take Collins? Still, versatility and huge talent that he's barely scratched the surface of plus ready to play now. Good move Packers.
And as I said, there weren't any losers, just some head scratchers and these are them.Raiders taking Cooper. I said in the live mock thread just a bit ago to Benny what I thought. Williams is the BPA in this draft. JJ Watt potential (yes I understand potential and talent are different) and he WANTED TO PLAY FOR OAKLAND! That's the big thing. The Raiders can't pay their own players to stay (Veldheer and Weiskeneksizkie the first that come to mind) so for someone to say I want to be a Raider is a rare trait. But I can't hate the Cooper pick, I just don't think it was the best move for the Raiders. Carr needs talent around him to progress as a player himself and Cooper has talent. Regardless of me liking White more than Cooper, Cooper has talent and will provide a reliable threat for Carr. There was just a better option imo. All that said, I hope Cooper comes out and proves to be a fucking monster. I want to see people go Calvin Johnson who? Remember that guy Jerry Rice? Yeah me neither because Amari Cooper. I'd love to see the Raiders have success and I hope he can help bring it to them.
Redskins taking Scherff. Now I don't hate this pick as much as a lot of others do. Scherff is a solid offensive guard......GUARD. He can play RT but you don't take a guard this early. The Redskins had their pick of the litter for OL and took who they though twas best and I hope it pans out but man, Leonard Williams was there too.

Bears taking Kevin White. Why? OK they just traded away Brandon Marshall.....but they just had Brandon Marshall. Having those 2 big threat WRs together didn't work for the Bears. It didn't get them over the hump. It didn't make them a better team. There's ALL the talent in the world available for their defense and they just replace the guy they just traded? It's not a bad pick because White is super talented but it's questionable is all.
Chiefs taking Marcus Peters. In a very un-Andy Reid like move, he shocks the shit out of us. This was probably my second biggest what the fuck of the draft (biggest is coming soon). I like the pick, everyone knows I'm a huge Peters fan boy, but Humphries was still on the board. There were WRs on the board. DL, safety (

Eric Berry

) etc etc and they go with a troubled Corner? Very risky Mr. Reid but could pay off huge as he is a top 10 talent.
The Bengals taking Ogbuehi. I wish I had the chat thread open to see Dan's reaction. Man oh man what happened here. There were far better talents on the board at many positions and they reach for a RT coming off of an ACL tear? Phew, this was my biggest headscratcher and possibly my only true loser of the first round here. Doesn't encourage at all.
Ravens taking Perriman over Strong confuses me only because the Ravens seemed to be in love with Strong. I like Perriman more but I'm not fool, I know he has faults and Strong was the much safer and more ready now prospect which is what we see the Ravens take most of the time.
WHO THE FUCK IS GOING TO PLAY ILB FOR THE COLTS??!?!?!
Extra notes I didn't want to get into.
I totally fell for the smokescreen that the Giants love Peat more than any other OL in the draft. They may have really loved him more assuming Flowers would be gone but damn I bit hard on that one haha.
Love Gurely to the Rams. Surprised the hell out of me but fantastic pick.
Cleveland did very well with Danny Shelton and then shit the bed with Erving. They balanced out which is why I'm not putting them in winner or headscratcher but man I feel for you Browns fans, I really do.
Idk why the Broncos felt the need to trade up for Ray. Surprised me a bit.
Pretty sure that's all I've got. Oh, one more thing...
LOSERS!THE FANS!! Seriously, all of that fucking hype over trades and big moves and this and that and nothing. It was just a kind of blazay, easy going nice little simple first round.
EDIT/PS: And I mean I guess anyone I didn't mention was a winner. Like I said, this wasn't really winners or losers, it was just things I liked and questioned. Falcons won with Beastly of course, Vikings getting a huge upgrade with Waynes to pair with Rhodes, there were a ton of excellent picks, just no need to go into too much detail because they make sense.
