Gold was going to go to shit anyway. There's no gold sinks to erase any.
And yes, the dupe contributed to this, but they ended up erasing lots and baned botters and those who did dupe significant amounts.
Prices before the dupe compared to after did not raise significantly.

duped.items went up allot, cause most of the people who afforded them ended up duping gold then getting locked and all their gear boa

banned botters?ask jeubywron? or jbell? 1 of them how he got his barb to plvl 40
botting nm act 2 for about a month straight ...he got hacked and didnt even know until i asked him wut bot he was using lol

All I see here is that blizzard fucked up plannin the economy.
Just like they fucked up the game.

they rushed out the game and it had major security lapses
the session spoofing was pretty lame i mean come on for real?
ah dupe (becasue it used your pc clock )
pw data bases hacked multiple times (yeah ther encrypted and totaly unbreakable )
if this game wasnt just a cash cow rushed out they would have had better security and the economy would be a lot better then it is today
imo the game itself would be a lot better becasue the loss of players wouldnt have been so massive and they wouldnt have panicked adding all these stupid little fixes
e: the game itself had potential until they added paragon levels .. they coulda just added an expansion with +10 levels and completely new op gear that made the old shit obsolete causing people to use up their gold
they coulda added the keyruns with the new expansion giving it that d2 feel and everything... but they totaly shit the bed on this one jay wilson screwed d3 hard

Honestly the entire time I played I couldn't get over feeling like it was just a neutered version of D2 which had a graphics update. Yes they should have tested better but all games have that. The content itself was crap, a large step backwards

Torchlight II followed the D2 model and made improvements on it. D3 took D2 and said "what can we get rid of to make room for the auction house and graphics while still being portable to console."

Guess which game has more and better content, then guess which game had a higher budget

even the story... it was ripped like right from diablo 1 basicly ... like come onnn seriously? if your going to take the d1 story bring back old bosses that were supposed to be diablos brothers and shit the 7 primeevils or whatnot not new bosses that make zero fuckin sense
i torrented TL2 and its way more fun then d3 lol i actually regret buying d3 and torrenting tl2

Yeah and the d3 story was about as developed as the d1 story. The cinematics in d2 were a better story than all of d3 combined.
Even little things like the merchants -- can you name the merchants in d3? They gave them barely any interaction with the player whatsoever. You don't get sucked into the act as much, and you don't get sucked into the story except the cutscenes everyone clicks to skip (jbell got mad at me for being slow when I watched them lol)

It's just frustrating, because it felt like they were trying to trick you by making it flashy instead of making it better. It's not a bad game but it is kind of insulting to me that they took a step back quality wise but made sure to get their auction house in there nice and early.

TL2 hits 5 dollars on sale on steam. I would suggest buying it, I've gotten a few 3-4 packs and gifted them to friends to support them.
