But he won the Norris, and is continuing to progress defensively, this Norris won't be his last

I give him LOTS of credit, I just think the entire award ceremony is becoming a bigger and bigger sham every year. He is going to be a franchise player for the sens and is well worth the lucrative contract he was given. I just pasionateltly argue that the Norris should go to the best Defenceman, not who can put up the most points. The trophy should go to who has the best all around ability, with defense being the most important area. Weber can play great defensively, he can play physical, he can skate, he can play special teams on both sides of the coin, and he is one of the best offensive defenceman on top of that. Erik is the best Offensive d-man in the game, without question, but imo this award is given for all around ability, not just getting the most points. I know he is not terrible defensively, but by no means is he an elite defensive specialists like weber or chara etc.... I know people talk about his takeaways, and how he lead the league in that area, but how many giveaways did he have vs the other elite d-men? He is one of the best in the game on D, but no the best, because he does not have the best all around ability. That is why I wish Chara or Weber won this. I do not hate this guy, but i guess the way i respond on here I can not blame others for possibly thinking I do. He is an elite defenceman, just not the best defenceman. Good think I did not watch the awards ceremony. Honestly this is a good move for the league, it will earn them much more money and attention vs giving it to Weber or Chara. I guess it is not as important in a way, after all, in the end winning the cup is everything.



/e and I know it was not decided by Bettman, I was just stating that he is most likely happy Karlsson won over Weber because it helps promote the league better. Offensive plays are what bring new fans in to watch the game, not defensive stickwork or other less flashy things.
