They tortured that girl and forced her to stay on the piste.... stay on the piste and face torture of agony and shame because Korea decided to send an appeal. ...l
Give me a break. "torture, agony and shame?" The Koreans were questioning the judges decision. It took time. Nothing more.
I have no idea where this drama of "torture, agony and shame?" that you mention is coming from.
The athlete would have gladly sat there for another few hours, if the result is she wins the appeal.Though the International Olympic Committee organizes the Summer and Winter Games, the day-to-day management of each individual event is left up to the autonomous international federations that govern each sport.
The International Fencing Federation (FIE) requires that “every appeal must be accompanied by the deposit of a guaranty of US $80, or its equivalent in another currency; this sum may be confiscated for the benefit of the FIE if the appeal is rejected on the grounds that it is ‘frivolous’; this decision will be taken by the juridical authority responsible for hearing the appeal.”
No doubt Korea would end up broke if having to spend $80 US dollars. Lucky it wasn't boxing, their deposit is around $500 US Dollars.
