Using same router, and everything. Anyways, with this new desktop build. I can simply login to router, and select "Use this mac address" put in whatever I want, and that's what my mac address appears to be. When doing this with my laptop, it never worked. Any reason why?

you can't just put in whatever you want, the MAC that you choose must meet some basic requirements. Generally it is best to just the known address of a device but change the last 2 digits.
As to why it didn't work with your laptop, that is weird...Just a guess, did your laptop have a wireless connection and your desktop have a wired one? Some routers have options to disable wireless administration.

Well yeah I guess I could've phrased that differently. But yeah wouldn't work with laptop, working with this desktop though. Does this legitely change your hardware ID though? Meaning would this be considered my "actual mac address." Or would certain programs/gaming industries be able to tell what my "real" mac address is, assuming this isn't.

Your "original mac" is still stored on the hardware, but when asked for that information it will lie and give what you changed it too. If you disable the clone option or maybe do a factory reset, it will default back to the original. But until that happens, this new mac is your mac address.

Gotcha, and no way for anyone to tell, unless I were to do that? by that I mean gaming industries who search for it etc.
Also with that said.. now when I try to change my mac address, it'll connect to my router but with limited access :(. Only changing the number values by 1 like I did before. For example instead of 2B, I'd do 3B or 1B

There is no way for anyone to tell without admin access to the device (unless you use a crazy mac address, in which case it will be clear it isn't the real one, but the real one will still be unknown).

I don't think ISP's like it when you change your MAC too often...

If it gives you too much shit, call them up and tell them your router broke and you had to buy a new one and it isn't working for some reason (play dumb).

Oh shit, didn't know they track that.. and yeah well now it won't change my mac, but they changed my IP on me. lol So I guess now they're not letting me change my mac for a while? oh well.

((Been tryin gto get past d2 RD))

Edit: Also I guess the good news of all this is.. I now know how I can get them to change my ip, just keep messing with mac. Though I did type in random #'s in dns server.

changing your mac (on your router) will generally force your isp to issue you a new ip address. This is not the original purpose of mac address cloning, but seems to be the most popular reason to do it now.

oh don't do that! I'd tell you what to set it too, but I'm not allowed to put any kind of address on d2jsp because I'm a very bad person.

go to google and type in "What is Google Public DNS?" and use the 2 addresses that page lists.

That's kind of cool. :) Not sure why I still had RD though when my IP changed. I guess D2 was going off my mac. However my reason for changing my mac address is for far bigger reasons. Basically running multiple wow clients, but I'd want a certain wow client to always appear ran off a diff mac. ((But if it's possible for people to know your "original mac" and track me by that, not sure if I'd wanna risk.)) With that said, the MAC is given from my network card correct? Which is would be the $30 wireless one I'm using.
