sadly i had a trojan. it wasnt allowing me to do most anything. but its gone now.

my issue is that i lost a lot of disk space on my C drive while the trojan was there. i dont know where all the space went as i dont know where to look for files of things that would cause me to lose gigs of space. my drive says right now it has like 256 mb out of the 60 gig partition available.

anyone have suggestions? im defragging right now and have done disk cleanup as well as killing a bunch of old system restore points (though i think the trojan got rid of most if not all of them anyways)

any suggestions will be most appreciated. thanks

If the rest of the space is showing up as Used and not just mysteriously gone, the Trojan probably filled it up somehow.

Use the Search For Files option in your start menu to Search All Files and Folders. Just leave the name blank and select the option to search for files larger than 1 MB, and under Advanced Options select the Hidden Files and Folders too.

Some Trojans will just create a mass amount of to fill up all the free space on your hard drive, but if it's removed you can just delete all of the files it left behind.

Is there anything specific I can look for? So many files are coming up and it's difficult to sift through legit and otherwise files

Sort it by size and go down through them, and look for a bunch of files probably of a similar size, similar/random name, and in a folder that you don't recognize. Or maybe just one really big file even.

If you find files like that, you should be able to just delete them. Just don't empty the recycle bin til you're sure they're worthless files.

E: Or if you know what the name of the trojan was you could just look up what it does to see if there's instructions on how to clean it up.
