The human plan was to create proxies who would create domes for the humans. Then once environment healed and blue skies showed, the sunlight would kill the proxies. Is this right? What made the sunlight shine at the end? Councidence?

Been a couple of years since I watched it so it's kinda blurry but i'd be able to, if for some reason I felt like re-watching it since I can't remember half of the story.
