Sasori only if he had all his puppets still.
He has the 3rd Kazekage as a puppet and that's all he needs.
the 3rd Kazekage could use magnet release so he could use iron sand.

iron sand > regular shit sand

sasori killed the 3rd kazekage whose sand was superior to gaara's... why would he need the 3rd kazekage to defeat gaara when he was able to defeat the 3rd kazekage by himself?
