Looking at how easily Edo-Hokage subdued the Juubi just settles it for me.

Orochimaru is going to become the unfinished 10 tails jinchurikki for sure after Madara is dealt with.

Now that I recall, Kabuto was the one that earned sage mode AFTER absorbing Orochimaru's powers, wasn't he? Even if Oro reabsorbed his powers from an essentially lifeless Kabuto, it doesn't seem like he'd be able to use it.

This is one very likely scenario that lets Sasuke die a hero and Naruto become hokage, thus giving a fitting ending for the story.

Yeah I've been thinking the same thing for a while. I don't see how Sasuke could be accepted by the village unless Naruto is hokage, and that destroys the point of Naruto vs Sasuke for hokage. Having Sasuke die a hero for the village would also restore the Uchiha name. Would make him an excellent martyr for peace.

I'm not sure if this is the last arc or not. If Sasuke is killed, I think it will be the end of the series. If he isn't, I can't see any villain other than Orochimaru taking over, though his motives are sketchy and unclear to say the least. Not sure exactly how that would play out. We also have Tobi to consider. If turns then he'll clearly die, but if he doesn't I'm not sure we've seen the end of him. He might not die this arc.

I'm not sure what to make of the story at all if it ever gets beyond this arc. ALL of the major players in the series are now present on the same field. The plot could go almost anywhere from here.

But for Sasuke...I just can't really picture a scenario that allows him to become hokage, unless Naruto has an extremely drastic change of heart, or as I mentioned, gets some sort of "king" status. Knowing Kishimoto's writing, if he wants to absolve Sasuke of all sins in the eyes of the village, he will. I really think it would be fitting for him to die in this story, whether it be at Naruto's hands or Madara's.
