the animation must be fluent.
the drawing-style is also important.

2010+ anime's have reached that peak.

"Bad" lol . That's a matter of perception .

I find a lot of 2010+ anime's art to be cliche and somewhat generic .

90's was the last really defining time for me where I could look at a character and call out the artist name .

and you didn't have to edit my post it was pretty much correct then lol

the animation was good but then I don't watch anime anymore, so I don't know if it was 2013 good.

Check Asuka's line just before she jumps off the entry plug in the last scene of the movie.

Also, check the glyphs on her eyepatch during the "triple seven" combat sequence vs 09.

Also check Kaworu's line just after he removes the DSS choker from Shinji.

All humans together as a unit are an Angel . That's why Kaworu constantly refers to Lilin as "itself". This is also what the Instrumentality project is pretty much for , to unite all souls together as one divine entity .

I don't even think Kaworu is dead.. I with some others believe that he was absorbed into the Core of Unit 13 , since the unit didn't seem to have a soul embodied into it (unlike he other pilots). That death didn't convince me at all .

Also we have to remember that Gendo still has the embryo of Adam merged with him , unless I missed something .
