For all of those that didn't hear me last year... THIS IS THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION. PERIOD.

The best that ever has been, and the best that ever will be.

Yeah it's pretty great.

Altough it makes me sad they changed the original opening credits.

Now it's... meh

I don't watch this show but this story is related.

My gf watches this show but the other day she said she probably won't watch it anymore because they made it look like Troy Davis was so innocent and didn't deserve prison or the death penalty. I think she'd agree he didn't deserve the death penalty since she's against it but prison is another story.

She actually reports irl. She personally reported on the case and even interviewed the mother of the victim. The real victim was the mother of the person Davis killed. She received death threats daily and she wasn't even the one who sought the death penalty (the state of Georgia did). She also had to relive the death of her son every time he made an appeal or received news coverage for his "innocence." He had 20 years to prove his innocence but all evidence pointed towards his guilt and he even changed his plea to self defense at one point.

So yeah the end result of that story is she won't be watching The Newsroom anymore because as a real reporter she felt their take on Davis's coverage was way too liberal, inaccurate, and the real story was all the bs the mother had to put up with.

Ok... But, do the fact lie? The only witness left was the other guy commenting the crime, who received a reduced sentence from saying that Davis was the won who shot and killed the man? Yes, it sucks for the mother, but that is life... And the show is fictional. It's simply putting a different angel on what the actual news we have, and listen to, like sheep. If we had real news reporters, asking real questions, Americans might not be so idiotic...

There were several witnesses and testimonies. Some of which recanted but recanting several years after the fact means nothing. And forensic evidence point directly at Davis. And he plead self defense at one point. So I'm gonna go with a resounding no the facts didn't lie this time.

I get where you're coming from though. But as a reporter she can't stand the facts and real issue of this case being turned upside down.

But anyways I didn't want to turn this into a political debate. Just an interesting side note about why she won't watch the show anymore. Their agenda was to portray him as an innocent soul who didn't deserve prison or death. They were wrong.

They didn't try to say he was innocent. It was based on the death penalty sentence. And all it did was show someone on the show having deep conflicted views on it. A person on the show wanted to try and bring more attention to it to get the death penalty dropped. Seems fair enough, but with a show based on the news to some extent you are going to run into that. And you have to understand the show is going to have its own bias.

This show is excellent. West Wing is another Aaron Sorkin-written show I would recommend if you haven't already seen it.
