Michael Fassbender was awesome, acting wise.
Here's what I liked about it:
- The David character.
- The Lawrence of Arabia references. <-- My favorite thing about it, come to think about it.
- The visuals, in general. The sets were cool and I thought they did a really good job creating something of an atmosphere, as a user here has pointed out.
Here's what I didn't like:
- The really, really predictable sequence of events that was the plot. I was not really surprised by anything in the whole movie, to be honest.
- The tired themes they used. For example, they have the theme of a humanoid android of some kind experiencing human emotions and taking its' existence into its own hands. It seemed like they made David to be exactly like HAL 9000, in a way.
- The fact that, in the end, it was just a fusion of Alien/Aliens and 2001: A Space Odyssey; with upgraded technology, of course.
I recommend it because it is a very nice movie to watch but I don't think it would be worth seeing again.
EDIT -- No, I have more to say than this.
I did not care for the religious spin this one took. It was the cliche of someone's belief being tested by adversity (extreme adversity, in this case) and then being forced to ask themselves whether or not they retain their belief in God, even after all the awful shit has happened and receiving all this new, revolutionary information.
There were a few specific parts that really distracted me but I can't elaborate without posting spoilers, so I won't.
