season 2 really sold the show to me. its not all fresh faced comedy like season 1. season 2 develops the homosocial, triangulated relationship between the characters. plotlines like their anger management class together shows that the characters aren't the superficially obscene, dim witted losers that we first thought they were. this is how i felt about steven carrell's michael scott as well. underneath the bravado of the need to be cool and funny, we glimpse with soft and sweet recognition, the yearning of the human spirit for community and the allure of (controversially) patriarchal desires such as protecting others and being down for a homie.
the show isnt highbrow. but it's understanding of its audience (me, and most likey u,) creates sympathies that high art fails to acheive. the question is, what is art? one of the eternal questions. what is rhetoric? workaholics. and low brow is the new high, if u werent aware of theory from the last decade. (now, no one's sure on brows).
