Hey guys, I've posted here a couple months ago planning to buy a laptop, haven't bought it yet but I am going to buy one in the next 1-2 weeks :)

I need your help and recommandation.
Which brands are currently the best? I heard ASUS - I might be wrong - had some pretty decent stuff?

I need this laptop for school and gaming (no massive gaming, I just need high FPS when playing League of Legends), that's pretty much it.
Budget: ~1 400$
Size: Not less than 15"

I live in Montreal, Quebec, and I am most likely going to buy the laptop in-store (so best buy, future shop, costco - don't laugh, they got good deals ;), etc. )

I do not want touch screen laptops :) That's pretty much it.

Here are the canadian stores' websites for laptops (if I buy in-store):
http://www.costco.ca/all-laptops.html?langId=-24&storeId=10302&catalogId=11201&identifier=all-laptops&categoryId=57507&sortBy=PriceMax|1
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/category/laptops-ultrabooks/20352.aspx?path=667d54682e0f5309125ed6faae37dfcden01
http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/category/laptops-macbooks/1002.aspx?path=847316bb9e1ba03338d63d9ec2954796en01

OH and what are your thoughts about ultrabooks? Are they worth it/good?

Thanks a bunch!

bump 2-3 days before you buy.

if i were you , i'd buy something online & pay for 2 days shipping instead of paying retarded taxes.

ultrabooks are neat , but they're made small.

Lenovo Y500 series will max out LoL and is in your budget, closer to ~800-1000 USD

This. People sometimes forget that you don't pay taxes online. When it comes down to buying stuff $500+, the tax really starts to hit you. Expedited shipping is almost always cheaper than taxes anyways and sometimes you get perks by shopping online (free games, free ram etc).

i would recommend that you do not purchase laptops from bestbuy, futureshop, and costco...
i would buy it online, from lenovo as well. You get much more AND SAVE more. If you really want to buy in-store, try NCIX.

~$1400, sir

Thanks everyone for the answers, but don't I pay taxes from buying online too? I live in Montreal (QC, Canada). And do I get a good warranty from buying online too?
Because, when buying in store, I can also get an extended warranty for free (depends where I buy it).

And, if I do buy online, I should buy from a canadian website shouldn't I? Because if I don't, then it will cost more with the custom fees?

Thanks again for the input! :hail:

5% federal and 9.5% on (total + federal taxes) so its more like 15% from subtotal
