Not exactly computers, especially since I won't be plugging my desktop or laptop to it, but didn't know where it was more appropriate to post.

Looking to spend somewhere around $1000 to $1500. Would spend more but I spent nearly $2000 building my desktop two months ago... :P

Preferably the cheaper the better, even if it is under $1000 (the less my wife will bitch at me). I'm planning on mounting this above my fireplace as I just recently moved into a townhouse just inside downtown so I've lost a couple hundred square feet of space compared to my old place so having space is a luxury

Give me some suggestions preferably with some of your personal experiences.

Well I'd say go with Plasma and either Samsung or Panasonic.
That is my personal opinion though :).
I currently own a Panasonic plasma TV and love it.

I'll agree with the first post here and go with a Panasonic or Samsung plasma model. They easily hold the best value of 2011 TVs.

Here are some models I would look at

Panasonic ST30 50"

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=147065&SRCCODE=GOOGLEBASE&cm_mmc_o=VRqCjC7BBTkwCjCECjCE

$999

Panasonic GT30 50"
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+50%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+3D+Plasma+HDTV/2355082.p?id=1218322742888&skuId=2355082&cmp=RMX&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=2355082

$1200

Samsung PND65000 51"

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+51%22+Class+/+Plasma+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+3D+/+HDTV/2364566.p?id=1218323019316&skuId=2364566&cmp=RMX&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=2364566

$1300

Samsung PND7000 51"
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+51%22+Class+/+Plasma+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+3D+/+HDTV/2345191.p?id=1218321953091&skuId=2345191&cmp=RMX&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=2345191

$1500

Listed them after price... all 4 of them are excellent picks. You didn't specify what size you wanted so I just grabbed the 50/51" sizes.

Here's how I'd narrow your choice down.

#1. The Samsung PND7000. It basically performs as well as the PND8000 (Samsungs top model, which is only a tiny weeny bit worse than the much more expensive Panasonic VT30 top model) but is a little bit different in the design, its black with a square foot instead of silver with spider foot for example.
#2. The ST30. Cheapest TV out of the bunch and is a favourite among those seeking a bang for buck TV. Panasonics mid range TV, CNET also believes this is the "Sweetspot" (price:performance) TV.

But if $1000 isn't enough and $1500 is too much you can't go wrong with picking the other for $1200 or $1300.

Well as far as size, best money can buy without losing quality of the TV itself :p

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out. Although, like I said I'm leaning towards the cheaper ones at the moment..

+1

Example would be to not go and spend $2000 on a tv when you can buy new(used) ones for a fraction of that or you can buy a cheaper one that is just as nice for also a fraction lol..

Shit for $1.5k you could have two big ass tvs right next to eachother :p

Well I wish I lived in San Diego. My parents go there all the time to buy used TVs and cars from Japanese people who are temporarily staying here for their job and need to quickly sell their things off. I mean even just the other day they got an essentially brand new 50 inch Sony for $200.. Craig's list isn't too reliable here in Arizona. Most of the stuff I've gone to check out from the ads turned out to be shit.
