Building a comp for a family member. Looking to build it for the best bang for my buck for a $500-$600 budget. Not really a gaming comp just trying for a good quality build for home use.

Comes out to $514 American after rebates.

seems ok. personally i d stay away from amd and go for a intel e6300 and 775 mobo. in that case u can get ddr2 ram too an hopefully save some more money.

I checked out that board and it only has one review. Sometimes newegg reviews can be the deal breaker for me when making a decision. Also, that combo is $205 as opposed to the AMD $175 plus $15 rebate. The G.Skill DDR2 is not much cheaper ($95). ISO more opinions. Is Intel worth it?

yeah, go for an outdated board and a crappy processor just to get intel (sarcasm)

@op
if this is just for home use, do something like a 785g motherboard (come in DDR2 or DDR3 memory standards)
get a 2.7 - 2.9ghz propus quad core if budget allows, or a higher dual otherwise
4 gigs of Gskill or corsair or Adata RAM (2x2)
get a smaller case, something micro-atx desktop or slim tower (most 785g mobos are mATX)
add in a small power supply, something like the antec green series, caviar green drive 500-1tb depending on how much media usage you want and what you want to spend
optical drive

the motherboard has an HD4200 onboard graphics card, perfect for HD videos and very light gaming

if you want a step up in graphics, a 780 chipset motherboard (HD3200/3300 onboard GFX) and a 3450/3470/2400 ATI graphics card in a hybrid crossfire setup will give you a super-cheap light gaming option

or if you want a step up from that, the HD4650 low profile or low profile ready

youve now got a power efficient PC in a small package that still packs a decent punch, perfect for home/general use

thats what i came up with, shipping is shown there, i have that same case, its a good little case, good airflow, tight fit but fits 2 HDDs if you dont use a floppy, plenty of room for 4gigs of ram and a standard heatsink

caviar green for low power operation
65w TDP dual core processor, again, low power
onboard HD4200 with 128mb DDR3 1333 sideport RAM (basically, a notch above all other vid chipsets)
blu-ray for HD movies (HD4200+Hdmi with audio passthru you can plug this into a TV and watch movies)

this is a pretty sick deal too

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.328189

needs a heatsink (small one) for the processor, and its DDR2 RAM and 4 1gb sticks, but still a good deal overall

seems to be way to many ati fanboys on this forum seriously.

if u get this setup u can easily clock the e6300 @ 1600fsb which would get 4.2ghz! and smoke that amd cpu which wont even clock that high

Socket 775 is completely dead and DDR2 prices are spiking due to the move to DDR3. It isn't because he is an AMD fanboy it is because AMD dominates the budget market.

it doesnt matter a e6300 @ 1600fsb (4.2ghz) will own with a nice graphics card.. there is no differnce in dd2 to ddr3 performance at the same mhz speed. and i f there is its like 1 orr 2 fps for gaming.

No, there isn't a performance difference. The problem here is that DDR2 support is gone. No future chipsets will be using DDR2. Also, socket 775 is done. Intel is no longer making new 775 chips in favor of 1156/1366. Your build offers up zero upgrade potential all while banking his entire value on huge overclocks, which realistically he may not be able to obtain (dud hardware) or be able to do (not enough knowledge. it takes a bit to push a big overclock like that).

Basically your build is shit.
