no to the mobo
my ghx card only has dvi ports and my monitor is vga, i could try plugging my lcd tv with my hdmi to my ghx card, would that work?

You need to plug it into your graphics card.

Did it come with an adapter?

yeah try it also check if your graphics card came with a vga to dvi adapter, if it did, use it.

Yes. :P Your monitor has to always be connected to the graphics card.
