Why are we still doing this home phone shit.
Get them a fucking cell and call it a day.
Also this box thing is only for cable providers, so who does dsl in your area?
get them to do the phone and get cable internet from whoever.
its for my family member who is in her late 90s and cannot use a cell phone
trust me id rather she had a cell phone, but they are way too difficult for her to use, way too small. and she wouldnt be able to plug it in to charge it. she can however see the buttons on a super large buttoned house phone just barely.

Bottom of the line Cricket phone is $29.99 cost, and then $25 a month for service (local and long distance, unlimited), no internet, no data...etc.
comcast internet and home phone bundle is $50 a month. without the phone i think it would be around $40

You can only purchase one (viable) EMTA and that's the Arris TM722G. No one makes EMTA's for retail purchase anymore and you can really only find them on ebay/amazon.
wow thanks. yea ive been looking these up. that model and one other. but both seem to retail for around $200 new. and ive heard way too many stories about the used ones still being tied to their previous owner and impossible to setup with comcast for new user.
i think the other model ive heard about is this one, TG862G, i think this is a router/modem combo, but i guess i can just turn off the internal router and use another if i want
also it looks like the tm722g is a modem only, and the newer version is the TM822g, also modem only.
do u know of any reliable way to get a used or refurbished one for cheaper, and much less likely to be tied to an old users account?
wow this looks somewhat legit? its only $50 used with prime shipping.....
