so im at my relatives house

they have the router next to their desktop.

but the modem is hooked up through a powerline adapter.

i cannot find the modem, and comcast tech guys here cannot find it either....

wtf to do?

the powerline adapter is connected into a power strip, which is bad from what ive heard. it should be hooked up into the wall directly, not a power strip

also why the fuck would someone setup a modem with a powerline adapter and then place the router next to the computer?
the modem should be next to the main computer. and then the router should be somewhere else....

but honestly, its stupid how we cannot find where the fking modem is located....

also apparently, the fking asshole phone representative when setting up the service knew we were getting a phone connection with internet. and only said hey make sure to get a cable 3.0 modem if u want to buy your own

but..... comcast techs come out and say hey, u need our modem because yours doesnt have a phone jack in it.... what the fk

the sb 6141 modem doesnt have a phone jack... such bullshit

and apparently theres another $30 charge for having them install on top of the regular $50 install fee because they need to run new lines. which they knew, because they are coming out to install wires.... which is why i setup the install in the first place. otherwise i could install it

aka comcast is fking bullshit

Then call em out and complain.
Funny cause my Internet via cable used another box for the phone entirely with a back up battery for power outages.
Since most cable services fail to work in black outs where as a normal non wireless phone would sill work.

no the att modem is separate from router. i see the router. but no clue where the modem is

and well the modem seems to be hooked up to the wall with a powerline adapter

so no fking clue where the modem is.... checked several spots. but even comcast guys dont know. and well its an ATT modem i believe

Pretty much this.

They offer phone service by itself, So they have to have a stand alone box just for phone.

im canceling internet and phone with ATT , and just had comcast install theirs

i wonder if ATT would come out just to find the modem they setup.... some random place in house hidden....

also comcast is such bullshit. for their home phone service, you HAVE to rent their modem for $10 a month. or you can buy the retail version for $200.....

are there any cable modems with a phone jack? or some way to hookup a phone to a cable modem that doesnt have a phone jack?

like rikuo said, if they offer just home phone they should have a stand alone box for phone... but i called and asked. and they said they offer the same fking modem for just phone service for $10 a month, even if the person isnt paying for internet? seems like bullshit... not sure.

basically need a way to get a box for just phone....

Why are we still doing this home phone shit.
Get them a fucking cell and call it a day.

Also this box thing is only for cable providers, so who does dsl in your area?
get them to do the phone and get cable internet from whoever.

Bottom of the line Cricket phone is $29.99 cost, and then $25 a month for service (local and long distance, unlimited), no internet, no data...etc.

You can only purchase one (viable) EMTA and that's the Arris TM722G. No one makes EMTA's for retail purchase anymore and you can really only find them on ebay/amazon.

its for my family member who is in her late 90s and cannot use a cell phone

trust me id rather she had a cell phone, but they are way too difficult for her to use, way too small. and she wouldnt be able to plug it in to charge it. she can however see the buttons on a super large buttoned house phone just barely.

comcast internet and home phone bundle is $50 a month. without the phone i think it would be around $40

wow thanks. yea ive been looking these up. that model and one other. but both seem to retail for around $200 new. and ive heard way too many stories about the used ones still being tied to their previous owner and impossible to setup with comcast for new user.

i think the other model ive heard about is this one, TG862G, i think this is a router/modem combo, but i guess i can just turn off the internal router and use another if i want

also it looks like the tm722g is a modem only, and the newer version is the TM822g, also modem only.

do u know of any reliable way to get a used or refurbished one for cheaper, and much less likely to be tied to an old users account?

wow this looks somewhat legit? its only $50 used with prime shipping.....
