Hi guys,

Moving house so need a new router (current one isn't mine). Looking for the following in a router:
Range/signal str
Good Quility of Service settings/customizability.

Should be good for speeds of 100MB/s as optical fibre is being rolled out in my area in the next year or two

Will go over budget if it's going to be a large performance gain for the extra cost.

I don't really know what I should be looking for in a router other than the above, so if there's anything important I missed it's not becasue I don't need/want it, I just don't know about it.

From the research I've done, a lot of people seem to recomend 'Billion' routers - however most review sites gave little reason why they rated them highly

install that on any computer laying around & get a compatible wireless adapter.

would be better then most prebuilt routers.

/e that's what i would do personally , for fun.

Haha, I'd love to do that but I don't have a spare computer (nor do I want to pay the power bill for a 300 watt router, LOL) not sure how much luck I'd have getting something like that to work as intended anyway.

"you get what you pay for" hasn't been true for a very long time, especially when it comes to tech.

If it was then people wouldn't post here looking for the best PC builds under X budget, they'd walk into wal-mart and buy the most expensive (and by your logic, best) computer in their budget........

ASUS RT-N66U is an excellent router, i believe the AC is the newer model, haven't really looked too much into the changes.
I doubt i get the most out my router regardless.

Get an Asus router, but dont get an AC router. I own the AC version of the rt-n66u and its glitchy.

Eh I just mean that spending a lot of money does not mean you will get a good product. For example my ISP offers a $350 router, which is utter trash - most reviews rate it about the same as a well picked $99 router.

I'm not opposed to paying for a good product (hence the $200 budget which can extend if needed) - but if you don't do the research you'll end up with a very expensive piece of rubbish.

I suppose I'm saying you have to spend the $ to get the quality, but spending more $ doesn't always mean you'll get a better product if you don't also do the research.

ANyway thanks all for the recommendations, will have a look through them all tonight
