I installed it, used it to check my internet speeds...then disabled it in Firefox, IE and the Windows Firewall.

I'm not recommending anyone install this...just passing the news...like for FIOS customers...it's needed to run the FIOS internet speed optimizer. If you don't specifically need it...I'd wait till more security reviews are out.

/e There may be other uses/needs for Java...for me..the only thing I've needed it for was certain speed tests...for example you don't need it for speedtest.net. However I run a pretty stripped down copy of Win 7...so there may be other uses for it, that I don't know about.

Updated it a week ago.. it still copies over the permissions from the old java you had, which means if a malware allowed itself or some malware site.. you still have it allowed.

you're always supposed to uninstall older versions of Java anyhow...before installing a newer version...I also only use the offline installers for Java, and Flash for that matter

Yea, that's why they have an auto updater that doesn't do that, makes total sense right? Because 99% of planet earth says "update" instead of doing a bunch of crap

Yeah I know...and on their own website they say...uninstall previous versions :/

/e I use registry cleaner (to be exact: JV16 Power Tools [last free version]...which does NOT support Win 7 or 64 bit OSW's but the registry finder and the installed software lists...still seem to work) to remove the update and auto update parts of Java ^^

nothing will happen if you use java. the only time something will happen if your frequented websites your visit gets iframed. if you dont go to random websites nothing will happen :/
