After a certain point cache speed on a hd doesn't affect speeds.
I would worry more about rpm.

Both are 7200 rpm 3.0 gb/s

The black is obviously going to be very marginally faster. It's up to your "friend", do they want an extra 140gb or do they want a small speed increase.

The AAKS 640 is going to be faster then the 500gb AALS.

The AALS will be slightly quieter.


And honestly..do you need to make a thread for every little thing?

With your subpar knowledge about computing. I don't think you'll notice a difference.
