If all you do is web browing and NO gaming (not playing games often doesn't make them require less specs... so if you intend to game at all you'll need much higher specs) then get any number of ultra books - samsung have some of the best on the market right now IMO.

Macs are for people who care more about how their laptop looks than how it performs. They cost a fortune and can't do much more than web-browsing without over heating (55 degrees C ++ on the underside even when just web browsing).

macs use to offer slimmer, lighter designs with better battery life - now there's a huge lineup of PC ultrabooks which offer the same for a fraction of the price + honestly they look better. I've never seen anyone complement the looks of a Mac, because they are so plain and generic by this point.

TL:DR;
No gaming:
Windows Ultrabook - make sure you look at Samsung's Ultrabook lineup.

Light/med gaming:Windows laptop with dedicated graphics. Just about any will do for light gaming.

eww , i wouldn't buy a 15.6" ultrabook.
it's just a over glorified laptop.

rich old people get macs and have no idea how to use them. get a windows machine :)

I admit though macs do have very nice battery life, and I plan on getting my wife an ipad. however like any logic person in this thread has mentioned, for your needs save the money and get a windows machine.

I love my mbp.

That was a one time deal though... I couldn't afford another. I use my netbook now. I only use the Mac when im playing Xbox to see if my net dropped. if you are planning on getting into a job that may require some experience with osx I'd look into getting a mac mini.

You know you keep saying this yet this has never been my experience over nearly a decade of using Macs almost exclusively.

My only Macbook that I owned
Constantly ran 70c+ just running safari

Gaming the CPU got to around 95-100c
"gaming" was playing runescape or wow on lowest settings btw

thing lasted just over a year before I sold it to some sucker. Apple refused to help unless I pay them 400$ for an extended warranty
