Show me where this actually happens please. The "Apple tax" is really not that bad anymore and hasn't been since the Intel switch. And don't post a gaming desktop vs. a mac pro because that's comparing consumer apples to enterprise-class oranges.

here's my pc - $669
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834216499&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwordsCA&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwordsCA-_-pla-_-Laptops+%2f+Notebooks-_-N82E16834216499

macbook pro with same specs - $1,299.00

Also, i stuck a 256GB ssd in mine which i bought for $180, making the total price 849

If you put a 256GB ssd in a macbook pro, it brings the price to 1699 + you don't get to keep ~$80 hdd, so price would be $1779 for the macbook

You realize you can put an aftermarket SSD in a pro, right? No one in their right mind pays OEM prices for upgrades like that. Also:

-Your screen is much lower quality than the MBP
- Your build quality is garbage compared to the MBP
- Less battery life
- Heavier
- No gigabit ethernet or thunderbolt.
- Terrible webcam quality

edit: My point is that you are comparing a bottom of the line machine with a premium product. Can you do cheaper? Sure but not everyone wants to.

i bought my asus for 560 after tax and the screen was worse and had no thunderbolt.

everything else was better though.

and in respects to the ops uses the mac is a waste of money, everything that is good about a mac would not be used, aka this:

Also this. You can also save some money by buying from their refurbished store.

-Your screen is much lower quality than the MBP
Macbook pro : "Supported resolutions: 1280 by 800 (native), 1152 by 720, 1024 by 640, and 800 by 500 pixels at 16:10 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 pixels at 4:3 aspect ratio stretched; 720 by 480 pixels at 3:2 aspect ratio; 720 by 480 pixels at 3:2 aspect ratio stretched"
same as my laptop

- Your build quality is garbage compared to the MBP
What's different?

- Less battery life
The battery life on my macbook pro is 5 hours, same as my laptop

- Heavier
My macbook pro is a little lighter, but not by much

- No gigabit ethernet or thunderbolt.
who the fuck cares?

- Terrible webcam quality
macbook pro - 1.3megapixels
laptop - 1.5megapixels

I take back the webcam part, I misread the specs.

The MPB screen is a high-gamut screen that is suitable for photography work. It's not a resolution difference it's a difference of actual quality.

I don't believe for one second that toshiba gets 5 hours of productive runtime on that battery at a reasonable brightness level with wifi on.

Gigabit ethernet for many is a non-negotiable thing. I would never transfer large files on a network without it. Also thunderbolt is great for high-speed portable storage.

Toshibas have been, and still are, budget machines made of shitty plastic with terrible cooling solutions. A macbook pro is made of aluminum and glass and is a solid machine. Yours is a cheap, flimsy shitpile with a terrible, flexy keyboard and shit trackpad.

I write software for a living and would take a MPB to work on daily over a low end PC any day.

Yeah, the ASUS ultrabooks (the higher end ones) are quite nice and are the only non-Apple laptop with a decent trackpad that I've encountered.
