Because heat lowers performance. Heat causes parts to fail faster. 85c is way too hot. 60c is much too hot unless you're running prime95.

So does that mean my 8800 is going out? I would like to double-check that temperature with another program, but all the gadgets for GPU temperature I've found cant' read off my card.

My CPU & GPU are currently exposed and have the thermal paste cleaned off it. Just wondering... on CPU I put a dot, and with the GPU I put on a glove and smear it around, yes?

I already read that. Do I do the same for the GPU? Youtube tutorials are showing people putting on a glove and smearing it around.
