I agree with you. It sucks to not have free open trade. Back when diablo 2 came out, it worked so well. The problem is that nowadays information is too readily available, and so are bots. This means if you try an open in-game economy in 2023 and beyond, the game is ruined by real money transactions and botting. As fun as it was back in the day with d2, its not possible anymore and it can't exist / be a focus in any serious triple A title that is not marketed as pay to win.

Blizzard is just incompetent at handling bots. Other AAA studios handle them fine.

they've been around since d2 was released, and prob before that on other games. they will be around 500 years after we're gone too.

I am a programmer now, and I was editing d2 bots back when I was in middle school and this game was relevant. No QQ'ing here, just letting people understand that open economies don't work anymore because of bots and real money transactions ruin the integrity of the game. I just choose to play games where there is less pay to win than d2.

Its not mainstream enough to attract many botters, and there's not that much content generated around it so you can play it and be oblivious to the fact that others are pay to win. With a larger title, thats not possible.

yes, but the game/economy isn't ruined and it certainly isn't a "economies don't work" game. you're just salty because you personally don't like a free economy and want to qq about bots now because d4 is your saving grace.

honestly, you should be ashamed of yourself, especially as an ex d2 player. you know damn well that having free trade is a pillar to the genre

No, I do want an open economy. It would great if there weren't bots and no real money transactions and an open economy. That would be ideal.

It's not possible though. Honestly I would love it if D4 was a good game, but I have my doubts like everyone else... ARPGs may just be a thing of the past
