I would switch out the gores for gtoes if using grief. gulli + gtoe = 60cb and that is all you really need. I also like up'd hoz better then exile. Gives more res ,+ skills, 20str and 20 vit. I also like CoH for pvm smiters. More res the better. As for rings, I use Raven and BK on my smiter. I'll list gear is a few.

Like you need resistance in UT.
Use Fortitude for more dmg.
You can use a BK for a second ring, or a rare with some strength, life and stuff.

3 skill Heaven's Light soc'd with 2x 15ias/15res jewels
Guillaume's Face soc'd with Um
Up'd HoZ soc'd with P Diamond

Second ring could be bk, its a good option i think

I really dislike bk on smiters. You get +1 skills... big deal... you get 49 life maximum at lvl99, nothing special.
You'd be better off using a dwarf star for fire absorb, or some rare ring with +stats/resists
