My CE is up to 20 yards. What is the max possible yards for CE on the original patch? When did they nerf the range on it. (what patch)

I had couple of theories how to proceed until lvl18. First it is good to have the bow because Clay Golem is shit. It has almost no damage, dies fast and does not slow enemies like today.
The first possibility would be shopping a +3 Raise Skeleton + 3 Skeleton Mastery Wand so I could have some army with adequate damage. Because there is now way I am wasting any hard skill points for skeletons. But it would have cost tons of money and I did not want to farm anymore in Act1 so I decided to keep going slow and steady with the bow.

Fun Fact
Big potions and full rejuvs have a chance to drop even in Act1 normal.

And here is the current CE radius.

Fun Facts about CE
Until patch 1.03 CE radius was about two times larger. This means from ~lvl17 CE will damage offscreen.
Until patch 1.03 the damage done by CE (60-100% of HP) was scaled up according to the player settings. This means I am able kill with the same speed regardless of the number of players.
This is why necs were one of the most OP chars back then. ^^

You may review the original guide by BradyGames for 1.00

https://archive.org/details/Diablo_II_Official_Strategy_Guide_BradyGames

CE radius was 15.3 yards on lvl20 and gained 0.7 yard by every additional skill points. With max + skill setup (+2 amu, +2 nec +3 CE wand, + 1 helm, + 1 armor, +2 Sojs, +1 Sigon shield) you were able to reach 23,7 yards, which is ~1.75 screen (according to 640*480 resolution).

I used to own that guide and every one of them like it. B)

23.7 is like woah man! I've capped out at 20 currently. I think I can squeeze out 21 yards with a +3 amulet, +3 circlet, and a +3 CE Necro shield with splendor in it. Can you get a +3 CE Necro shield that also has +2 necro skills?

Updates!

Tried some bonefarming during this week, but it sucked.

For those who do not know what bonefarming stands for, here is the fun fact:

Quote (Old Lurker Lounge Forum from 2000)
This is a growing known trick that is now shameful everyone will know. It will be over-exploitted and is quite a threat to game balance. When you do it the first time, you get a random drop of items. The next time you do it in the same spot you will get the same TYPE, howver could change into a magical or unique or rare or set or normal (whatever it was before). So, one could get a good drop of say, Ancient Armor and some gems. Keep doing it and maybe eventually get Silks of the Victor and lots of perfect gems. They would also get lots of money for the ancient armor everytime. I wish whoever found it kept quiet and just told blizzard. Also, the Bone Wall matches an Act 4 treasure class so no matter what act, will drop act 4 style items.

Quote (Another old quote)
Bone wall bug (Update: 8-13-00)
Details: OK, listen up Necromancers!
I have received several updated versions of the bone wall bug.
Here's exactly how you do it:
- Go to the Rogue Encampment in Act 1 (best if in Hell mode).
- Step out of town and fill your screen with bone walls. Use as much mana as possible.
- Walk back into town and wait for the walls to collapse.
- Return to the location of the dead bone walls and loot away!
I have tested this myself and it does in fact work. The loot ranges anywhere from unique items to perfect gems.

By comparison here is my result:

One fucking gem after a dozen attempt.
During this time I could have obtained 10 times more usable stuff in Act4. Okay I did not expect a rain of items, but one single gem is disappointing.
Maybe I did it wrong. If someone knows the trick, please enlighten me! :D

After the not so rewarding bone wall attempts I decided to start Act4.

Level up.

And here comes the scary part.

I almost died here due to a bug I have never seen before. Izual 1-hit killed the Blood Golem, and after I resurrected it my HP bar started to bounce between empty and full. I hit save & exit. Exactly the same happed during my second attempt.

I reconstructed the case with a fake char, since obviously I did not want to die during the progress. Below you can see the results.

My HP after Izual 1-hit killed BG:

Then it went below zero:

And eventually game crash:

I tested it with lower player settings. Exactly the same happened on P7, 6 and 5. On P4 things went back to normal, BG was able to deal with Izual's attacks.

If someone kows this bug, please explain it to me.
