The difference is 40% life leech :p And the ability to leech off monsters that don't let you leech normally.

(...)

No, because life tap ignores :

a) Difficulty penalty on leech (Hell = 1/3 IIRC)
b) monster's resistance to leech (which was a part of your answer, but concerns every monsters, not only those unleechable).

This post has so many wrongs in it I don't know where to start...

10% life stolen per hit does nothing where it actually matter, which is on bosses. Also 10% life steal or any life stolen per hit for that matter is not the same as Life Tap. Not even close.

And Treachery is always better than Fortitude. ALWAYS.

My merc never dies with this build and that's what the poster wants i guess..

That has nothing to do with it. Treachery is still a better choice. Cheaper too.

I concede it's more useful in many situations. The thread which you probably didn't take time to read actually states that there are scenarios where Fort is better. Mostly in a melee situation fort will perform better, but most of the game's enemies use spells so being in a melee fight vs melee is less likely to occur.

Except that the Fade from Treachery gives %DR, something that is more than a little useful in melee situations.

wow my last reply to this topic...I AGREE treachery is great armor. Fade is great for survival. But there is something to be said for a merc who just does a huge amount of damage in burst vs over time.

+bigger defense on an eth fort + chilling armor proc = big defense = fewer hits.

Then why are you still arguing for it? You're just giving out wrong information. Accept that you are wrong and move on.

No, because Treachery put's out more damage than Fortitude could ever do.

Not true. The table you linked analyze might mercs (250 off-weapon ed already). However, It is true that on a side of a hammerdin (conc), treachery is always better.

Oh god. It was just one of several comparisons. With CB Treachery is always better, it also matter where you calc the damage at. Bosses or monsters. But nvm, if you wanna use Fortitude, do it.
