hi, i'm new
i just wanted to know how many sockets max can a unique item have
lets say geofri's baptism is a lvl27 maul, could it get 6 sockets if it's found in a lvl 60~ zone ?

item level 1 - max. 2 sockets (except the starting weapons)
item level 15 - max. 3 sockets
item level 28 - max. 4 sockets
item level 35 - max. 5 sockets
item level 50 - max. 6 sockets

i have used around 20 orbs on a unique 2h maul ilvl63 but i never had more than 4 sox, am i just unlucky ? or chances to get high sox number is really low ?

Just to clear up.
Required level and item level are two different things..

What you see on the item is required level.

Hold the item and type /itemlevel will post in chat the items level.
Itemlevel is what you need to make sockets
Item level also determines what mods the item can cap up too.

It's really hard to get 5soc, and even harder to get 6soc, when you jeweler.

Past that, your eyes will bleed when you try to 5-link or (god forbid) 6-link it.

yes i got a 4 sockets one then tried to link them
took my some money aswell for a shitty base item ^^
