I've been playing POE for a week or two and convinced my wife to try it. I DL'd it on her computer, but it was getting a ton of video card lag. The mouse movement was choppy and the game was so glitchy

The weird thing is her computer is better than mine, and mine has no problems. She's got 4 GB of RAM and 1 GB of dedicated video RAM, i7 processor etc. Her computer is newer and nicer than mine, yet mine has no problems. She had no problems before.

I know how to tinker around with most of the basic settings. I adjusted all the video stuff for "best performance" as opposed to appearance, increased her paging file, disabled file indexing and some other basic shit, but to no avail (this might not help anyway but I was just trying for the hell of it).

Even basic programs like MS word were lagging horribly even when the game wasn't open, when we uninstalled it the problem is gone. I have no problem whatsoever though on my computer.

Any ideas?

did you try restarting the computer after you isntalled PoE? have you installed other games on it before?

I tried restarting it several times, disabling all unnecessary start up programs, and other stuff.

We haven't gamed on it much, but like I said it's better than my computer. She's got a semi-decent GEForce video card that's better than mine, just doesn't 'make sense.

Check for graphics card driver updates.
Consider flashing your bios
Defrag your Hd
set your page file to a static size and not a variable.
Try windowed mode
crank down the graphics quality.

flashing the bios wouldn't fix anything that installing software would cause.

sounds like maybe the install went bad. try reinstalling it. if that doesn't work, update the graphics driver.

PoE is heavily fragmenting the HD.

bios and graphics card drivers could be clashing...especially if onboard video is enabled through bios. Eliminating most options. But I do agree bios flash should be last resort.

How big is the hard drive and how much space is left?
