english is actually one of the more complex languages to learn because of the amount of colloquialisms and nonsensical grammar rules, i.e read and read etc, ESL classes teach proper english but its hard to fully grasp the idiosyncrasies of speaking true american english

and spanish and portuguese are fairly simple to learn since they are romantic languages

All languages have their colloquialisms and nonsensical grammar rules, dude... in english you don't even have to conjugate verbs like latin languages!
i hope you know what you're talking about cause portuguese, english and spanish are my 1st, 2nd and 3rd languages and i can tell you empirically that english is the easier one, you wont understand shit of portuguese if you learn from some teacher and try to talk online or live to me
I really hope you do have some study on languages and what you're saying is real knowledge further than useless patriotic common sense, if so, the debate is useless :wallbash:

I took 6 years of german 4 in highschool and 2 in uni, english is indeed difficult, i've met many esl students who have trouble communicating in a non-proper way,
conjugation makes languages easier as there are definitive rules for each situation

nn attacks on my country either, its not "patriotism", protip: a lot of countries have english as a main or secondary language

yeah, i told the patriotic thing because of the sig that brought the discussion up, idc for countries, lol
still, the point was about the "difficulty" that english brings compared to spanish or vice-versa
you should speak german, ofc, but i don't understand how that adds so you can tell the difference between latin laguages and anglo saxonic ones
and what a romantic language is supposed to be?

and all of my american/english english teachers, even the ones that lived over 10 years in brazil couldnt speak some sentences properly, though i find myself the troubles that the students you mentioned have
maybe is not about a language beeing harder than the other, but to respect each language and know that culture and knowledge never is good enough

I love hearing non-native english speakers try to talk. It's pretty cute when it's a chick.

anything derivative from latin primarily, french, spanish, italian etc

you attacked me for not studying languages so i provided what ive learned and am not a monolinguistic person who is ethnocentric, either way even if you think english is easy does not mean others have trouble with it
this argument will go no where anyways without actual evidence
