I live in a dorm where we aren't allowed to have hotplates, toaster ovens, or anything that could be a fire hazard. We do have a microwave however. I was wondering if anyone had ideas for actual meals we could make in the microwave. It's fairly small, by the way.

I was thinking of making some sort of pasta some time.

Any other suggestions (along with instructions?) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm trying to save money, so I don't want to buy pre-cooked food. I have heard of people making pasta in a microwave, and it seems pretty simple.

Anyone know any foods?

You can make lots of stuff in the microwave... not as tasty but enough to survive :D
pasta
rice
eggs (careful here)
meat (disgusting imo,but u can do it)
chicken (disgusting imo,but u can do it)
Potatos, sweet potatos.

Actually anything u can cook in a pot with water you can cook in the microwave.

can you have a rice cooker? 30$ for the rice cooker and 1$/pound of rice will save your ass. they also include steamers

you can use the microwave to steam stuff, get a glass covered microwaveable dish. ive used for things like green beans/sugar snap peas, etc, but you could do with other veggies, too. never tried it, but i imagine cooking rice and pasta would be fine as well, just add to water and boil it in the microwave. i cooked chicken in a microwave once, but it was terrible, very chewy. that was sauced, and then cooked uncovered, i think. covering it or cooking it submerged in a liquid would probably work better.
