I have a proposal for ranked melee this ladder season. I would like to see zeal be exclusively non-tap this ladder season. Please read everything I have written here and give it some careful thought, I look forward to hearing from you.



Before I state what I believe are the positive aspects of this change, I'd like to explain how it could generate a larger community for ranked ladder this season.


Many zealers that are reading this post are established members of the USeast Melee community who already have great tap zealers on Non-ladder. I believe by making ladder uniquely non-tap, we are giving more incentive to non-ladder players to come over and play ladder as well.


Now that guber leveling is gone, less people are motivated to make a new high level zealer if they already have a GG one on NL. This is especially more true if they are led to use the same setups as their NL characters common CC/shaftstop/shako/visionary builds that dominate the Exile scene.


Now you may tell me “Go to Uswest then, they do Non-tap”. Useast > Uswest. West has half the players that east do. Also, as Dark-soul earlier reminded me, west is plagued by the Zbug fort. We might even get some west converts over here. Don't worry, we will still follow the same east rules in regards to poison damage and elemental damage.


Now, for the main purpose of switching to non-tap: VARIETY VARIETY VARIETY. To build around exile is so limiting, due to the nature of DR/CBF/and IAS bps. I believe you will rarely find two people go at each-other with the same setup in non-tap.


I speak from experience when I say last ladder season, tap got to the point where it was only used for challenges and tournaments. People had gotten bored with their exiles, ranked ladder had become a chore for them, and you almost never saw exile being used to duel for fun.


There is already tap on NL, why not make our new ladder season something different, something fresh, something more accessible.

PS: Think about all the poor conc barbs and fury wolfies out there who had to stand on the sidelines and wait for a zealer to put on their nontap.

It's good idea but... It's still too earler on the ladder. Exile is always gm for zvz and always will be. @@

If steve agree about it or strongly agree with this then I'll agree with him since he makes ladder stuffs :S

the only problem I have with this is ... I think the GM Melee rules should be Uniform across all of east .... I hate tap as much as anybody but unless it banned across the board for ladder and NL then I dont think I would support it ... the one thing all ladder melee chars have in common is they will eventually become NL Melee chars....

I understand what you're saying. I forgot to mention in my original post, what makes this idea doable this season is the ability to reset all your stats. In the past, its not fair to ask someone on ladder to stat for non-tap, only for their hard leveled character to be non-tap compatible when the ladder rolled over. That problem is no longer an issue. It just doesn't make much sense to keep tap going when there is so much general dislike towards it on the ladder, it practically takes the fun out of the most fun part of zeal; making your very own unique setup.

I thought you were going to get your non-tap fix on west? They're all about that over there but east/euro = tap always. I do think there should be non-tap tournies again like there used to be since there are a few zealots who hate tap. Ladder melees always followed there own rules in the past though I mean edeath zerk and andys were always gm there lol.

Tournaments with non-tap theme would also work. Basically, anything that can make non-tap setups relavent

It would be interesting now with the respec too you could actually stat for non-tap for the tournie then back to tap for normal duels.
