What skills do DPS/Tank monks use? Right now I have Seize, 1 with and 2nd chance as passives.

Any skills / mantra I should be using? Stats above are boosted with ToN

Ignore Tommyvv, as he posts the same worthless crap in every single monk thread (he hasn't even made it out of Act 1 or something).

Drop Second Chance - I think it's still bugged so that it can trigger while you have Serenity up and drop your HP through immunity. It's a shitty passive regardless anyway.

Resolve > Seize, though you could/should definitely run with both.

Your gear looks pretty good - what are your stats/DPS? One thing to note is that you have fairly low attack speed, so your 1k LoH is a lot less valuable than it would be if you had better attack speed. Even after the IAS nerf, it's still possible (and encouraged) to try to shoot for higher levels of APS (2 APS is a good goal to shoot for, but may not be realistic unless you dual-wield).

Take it or leave it, but my suggestion (what worked for me to finally get a3/4 on farm status) was to ditch the shield, ditch the defensive mantra, and go for a dual wield (dex + loh + crit dmg) dps build while maintaining my defensive/resist gear.

You'll watch your damage skyrocket, LOH make up for loss of block (mostly), spirit generation increase a huge amount, and things seemed to get easier

For passives I run sieze + OwE + transcendence (or resolve) for A3+4, and sieze + OwE + combo strike for A1+2. Mantra is Conviction with overawe rune for every build (come on.. 48% damage is broken good... nothing else compares)

for high dodge builds, MoE+Backlash still outperforms MoC. that said, it's only effective if you're planning to skip white mobs and fight elites while being surrounded by whites who are presumably attacking you and missing.

that said, dual wielding is expensive, but given how much a good shield can cost these days, it may be an equivalent choice depending on how good your mainhand is.

i typically only run with a DH ally and was thinking about using conviction+overawe? I will definitely switch to resolve though... I had put in like 150 hrs + with a WD and (sadly powerleveld) my monk to 60. I didn't explore all the features and somehow totally missed resolve... looks sick

i have a lot of extra monk gear (cause I keep swapping what works and what doesnt) and I have as high as a 950 DPS 1 hander with 200 dex, and as low as a 610 DPS 1.5 APS 800 LOH dagger...

i switch them out all the time, and vs some mobs i'll throw on a dual wield. I carry mf + dual wield weapons in case i drop my shield...

e/ thx for posting your advice irimi and hunt

if you're running in a group with DPSers, you have no excuse for using anything but MoC+Overawe. in fact, you'd have to be plain stupid not to.

as for dual-wielding -- if your two weapons aren't within 5-10% of each other in terms of DPS (after stats are accounted for), you'll be doing more DPS doing 1h+shield than dual-wielding. you might make an exception if, say, you had two weapons with high LoH on them, but aside from that a shield is going to get you more mileage in the short term.

also, if you're going to dw, don't use any base with less than 1.3-1.4 attack speed, or else you kind of defeat the purpose of DWing in the first place.
