Well today was interesting. Instead of continuing progress on my stand up jet ski hull, I was asked to wrench on one of the most celebrated classics of all time. a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing. The FIRST production car with direct fuel injection, and it was the world's fastest car when it came out.

Pretty much THE Mercedes to end all Mercedes.

I will be honest. When the car you are working on is worth over half a million dollars, you tend to be a little more cautious than usual.

The car had a bad starter, so I was asked to install the new one.

YES PLEASE!

Once I was finished, I got to hear it run! Badthefuckmotherfuckingass!

Then I backed it out for some super awesome contrast against the snow.

Some pics for clicks. It was a good day.

I'll get to drive this once the roads dry up! I am excite!

Now I need to convince the owner to let me paint it when that day does come.

And oh yeah, no one was around to sign for my wheels....sooo........tomorrow....ugh. haha.

Yep! and the OWNER WANTED TO GO FOR A DRIVE TOO!

But I told him: "no one in the world wants to drive this car MORE than I, but I won't allow this car to touch those roads"

He laughed, we made a joke about snow chains, and he basically said: any time.

Backstory: I am working independently with a business partner making composites in Northern New York. We are currently making backflippable stand up jet skis, some stand up paddleboards, and hopefully a myriad of other things down the line.

The shop where we work is owned by my business partner's father, who happens to own a drool worthy stable himself, and luckily for me, THIS is where he keeps it. (Including but not limited to: Ferrari 575m, Bentley Continental, a slew of Mercedes', etc...)

The upstairs area is essentially his toy storage, the downstairs area is where we work on composites. Only just meeting the man 2 days ago, and talking cars with him, he asked for my help with a long ongoing problem with their starter. So I GLADLY obliged.

I'm so happy to be able to walk in and see (and now WORK on) some really awesome automobilia.

I'm going to convince him to let me paint the car when that time comes. I'd make that my Mona Lisa.

EDIT: more pics
