i think he was referring to road racing, but even then if u shift into 5th on a straight its because u hit the top of 4th so downshifting with out slowing down could very well blow the engine and would not be faster than staying in 5th

edit: mb he was referring to freeway racing i dunno

only time that would be plausable is if your crusing doing the speed limit in like 5th or 6gear, and some one passes you and you do that to catch up.
