My room mate owns a red nose pit.

tl;dr: bad dog, worse owner.

He has got the be the most dog clueless person I've ever met.
She does all sorts of shit that spits in the face of him as the owner; anytime I try to correct her behavior, or break some of these shitty habits, he goes right out and undermines it all.
I've tried telling him what to watch for in the dogs body language, and expressions, but it's like talking to a fucking post. He just doesn't care.

He's I guess happy that his dog is super fat, misbehaving pit. His is the reason pits have a bad name. It doesn't listen for shit off a leash in public areas, or even the front yard.
It WILL chase down dogs that are nearby that it doesn't know and try to attack them. If she gets her nose onto something, or tunnel visions something, she'll give chase, leash or no leash, and doesn't listen.

He over feeds her. Table scraps GALORE. Multiple times daily. Fuckwit doesn't understand he's gotta be tripling her protein intake. Not to mention the calories and fat.
And this only helps to reinforce all of her horrible behavior.
She stares people down for food b/c she fucking expects it.
Absolutely anything he makes at home, unless it's like chocolate or something, she gets some of it. Pizza, burritos, taco bell, chips, donuts, you name it.
She's gotten clever enough that, at night, she'll eat the scraps off her food, then go lay next to him on the couch and stare him down until she gets to literally lick the bowl (as well as receive more scraps by hand).
Then she goes back to her bowl to eat some of her actual food.

She's gotta have some issues with her head too b/c he won't just play with her with toys.
I mean, he will for a bit, but she likes to play with little scraps of toys that she's torn up, and he just throws them under something she can't get to, or fake throws and hides it.
And then just leaves it at that...no bringing it back, or anything. Which I think is why she plays with scraps. So she can make 1 toy last longer.
He's kept tennis balls on top of the fridge for years, which she can ofc smell, so anytime you reach anywhere near the fridge, she jumps up expecting you're playing with her.
She'll bring toys up to you and just throw them at you and stare you down until you do something with it. If you tell her no or something, she'll go, but come right back not 5 fucking minutes later doing the same shit again.

I see and understand EVERYTHING this dog screams with her body language, and he's fucking deaf to it all. God. Damn. Infuriating.

I have her respect, somewhat. She doesn't beg for food from me, but she will still go check her food bowl if I make something, and will sniff towards w/e I made, trying to be sneaky about it.
But the more he keeps on feeding her, and making her worse and worse, the less she listens to me. I've used a stern tone with her a handful of times when she does something out of line. Which she does listen to, but then she'll
try to go hide in his room or mine.

I absolutely love dogs, but this pit drives me fucking insane b/c of what he's turned her into.

Try to get him o start changing the diet.

I know alot f people put their dog on a pedestal in dofferent ways.
So to him from what I understand is, this dog could do no wrong.

Try to get him to feed the dog rice and chicken.

Just that, because excessive weight, etc, on the dog can have an effect on the dogs personality
Like it kinda does on humans too.

I can tell he hates it when I correct her, or discipline her for say, jumping up when someone comes in the door, or staring people down for food.
But, fuck him, I'm sick of these behaviors. If he won't change the dogs attitude, I will.
It's just aggravating when I correct something, and then he'll do something that completely undermines the lesson being taught.

Her demeanor has changed too. Hes even said her personality has changed a bit.
Used to be calm and not really mind other dogs so much as a puppy, but now she'll try to go after other dogs just passing on the sidewalk in front of the house.
Likes to be sneaky about it too, she loves to come from a blind angle, and knows how to put herself in that blind spot.
Thankfully, he DOES listen to me on the fact that she needs to be on a leash in the front yard.
Probably because he already had to put down her brother a 3 years ago for putting a few holes in a dog at a park.

Shit PISSES me off that this guy has a Pit and yet I can't because of Breed Restrictions brought on by ASSHOLE owners like him.

People don't realize a dog is a pack animal and needs a job. Pits especially need to WORK for their food, table feeding them is so bad.

Second this.

I've got 2 dogs that wind up going to the park virtually every day. There are at least 8-10 pitbull owners that come there (all good dog people) and I'd say that those dogs are among the best behaved of all the dogs I know. Despite having good dogs the owners feel it necessary to reassure everyone that their dogs are friendly and won't bite them.

Unfortunately there's probably much you can do unless he decides to relinquish ownership of the dog.
