have you ever been next to a pet for the last moments of its life?
my friend had a cat for 16 years, she figured out it was dying of old age and she was there during the final moments.

it was lying there holding on to her finger with one of its paws when it died.

wierd.... i probably wont look at my pets the same now that i have witnessed this.
i fear i may no longer possess the conviction to put down an animal with such haste.


maybe i am just having a moment... but its cool how an single animal can be so bonded to one person..

i've had to put animals to sleep but havent been in the room for the process. i get VERY attached to my animals. i love the bond between pets and owners

i recently had to put down my very first dog due to old age and i was in the room with him.. it was one of the hardest things losing a beloved pet.

I wish i could have done that with my cat. I had A norwegian forest cat. He was a badass for being a cat and he ruled the neighborhood. I woke up about a month ago to my sister screaming that he had been hit by a car. I had to go pick him up and it was the most sad i have been over an animal. (he wouldnt stop meowing till he went outside so there was no way to keep him in) Still miss that cat to death.

If you don't do everything in your power to sit there with your animal at the time of euthanization then you don't care enough. I've put both of my dogs down, both at 13 years old. I could tell that my presence was comforting for them.

to me its like losing a family member, i get really upset.

I recently had to put down my cat of 18 years, had her since i was 4. I was very upset and i will never have another cat. She had a tumour growing on her lip and stopped eating. She allways found a spot in the house where we couldnt reach her, like in vents and under the deck etc. I guess she was trying to find a place to die

It's one of the worst feelings you can experience. There is no easy way to go about it but you should probably be there with your pet during it's last stages in life... Wouldn't you want your family around during your last hours alive? I'd guess yes.
