So I have had my Kenwood Kac-8105D 500watt RMS amp hooked up to my 2x sony xplods running @ 2 ohm for about 2 years and all of the sudden over the past couple months it started randomly turning itself every once in awhile. I would check everything out, restart it, & everything would be fine. Today I had the radio about 1/2 way up and the amp just shut off and wont turn back on.

So far I check the obvious.. Power is good to the amp and the remote wire. No shorts I can see anywhere and wiggling wires does nothing. No fuses are blown at least on the outside of the amp. I thought maybe it went into protection mode but the blue light on the amp doesnt even flicker when I turn the key on.

Now I took it to a couple stereo shops who didnt even look at it and said its gone..

I am starting to think it is blown as well but wtf would cause this? The only thing I can think is the amp was directly mounted to the sub box and the screws were loose so it could have been vibrating around?

And now if it is blown wtf should I buy next?

Technically the xplods are 300 RMS each so should I go with something like this to put out 600RMS @ 2ohm?

Little update...

Went ahead and replaced both 30 amp fuses on the outside of the amp even though they looked good... nothing

Went ahead and unmounted the amp to look at it. No burnt smell or anything.

Took the plate off and inspected the inside the best I know how to... I dont see anything wrong or a bit of smell.

Lmk if you guys see something obvious? I think the white paste is some kind of glue? I have no clue what im looking at..

If you test power, remote and ground and they all test out (and the amp won't turn on) then it's broken.
How did you test your power connections? Multimeter I imagine?

Yes. I was getting 12.5V to the power wire & remote wire at the amp and even unplugged everything extra in case there was a short and nothing..

I was hoping it was something stupid but it looks like its fucked...

So now let me ask what everyone's opinion is on mounting amps directly to the sub box?

And also what amp would people recommend to replace that with? I really dont wanna spend over $200 because I have shitty subs neways...

go with sundown or american bass homie. im sorry but kenwood is garbage along with jvc, crunch, infinity, lazar, the best are amongst sundown, american bass, kicker, cadence, fi, dc.. get yourself a decent amp.. you can get by on cheaper subs but without the right amp your just wasting your money.. and ill help you out here give ya a tip on car audio. k you want to use 2 xplods that are 300 watt rms each? your goin to need to get an amp that pushes out RMS 600+ class d 1 channel. id go with a decent american bass amp. there made in the us and are really good i had one for 6 years ran strong beat it everyday. check their website, americanbassusa.com
i do with 1k watts RMS amp 1 channel that way you get just around 500 each sub. if you dont like the power it pushes into your subs you can always turn the gain down. its better to have more than not enough.

Already went with the MB Quart 600.1

Running 600rms @ 2 ohm. So far no problems at all.
